TEAM MASSIMO

Story

Hello and thanks for dropping past my Team Fundraising Page.

My name is Massimo and I'm taking part in the 2012 Melbourne Marathon Festival.

I have a really rare (like one in a billion-gazillion) genetic condition, with a long funny sounding Greek name, called Leukodystrophy.  All of a sudden, way back in July 2009, I started to lose some basic skills like crawling, sitting and even talking.  It all sounded pretty serious but a group of extraordinary people from around the world have worked tirelessly to figure out what’s going on and helped me overcome some of these challenges.

I will be taking part in the Melbourne Marathon on Sunday 14th October 2012 as the Captain of TEAM MASSIMO. I’m hoping you can help me raise over $2,500 for the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre. The Cerebral Palsy Education Centre service is a one-of-a-kind in Australia and the opportunity to attend is truly life-changing for children with complex medical conditions like mine.

I was fortunate enough to start attending the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre last year, where a team of totally amazing therapists have been helping me re-learn some of the basic skills we all take for granted. I have been learning to use a communication system called PODD and now I can tell people how I am feeling, when I am hungry and even ask for my favourite toys. It’s very cool and my twin brothers are starting to learn how to use it too.

Your support no matter how big or small, will make a HUGE difference to all the kids at the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre and help them get the most out of life. Thank-you for your support.

    CPEC (Cerebral Palsy Education Centre)

CPEC is a unique and specialised service for children and young people with Cerebral Palsy and similar conditions and their families. We are the only Centre of its type in Australia and we are recognised around the world for our success in working with children with CP.
We provide physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy to children as well as helping them to access essential equipment they need in their daily lives. Every single child who attends CPEC no matter how severe their disability learns to communicate. If you are switched on but can't tell others what you feel or need life can be very frustrating. Learning to communicate is life changing.

It currently costs $34,000 per child per year to receive the much needed “Learning for Life” education programs from CPEC. The Government only funds $7,900 of this so we rely on generous people making donations to help keep us operating.
Our kids are inspiring overcoming obstacles to perform everyday activities, we need your support to help them live as independetly as possible.
